Ironman Asia Pacific Champs - Cairns
Ironman regional championships are the best place for professional athletes outside of Kona to test themselves against a strong field. That was my goal in Cairns. Regional champs have an automatic Kona slot, double Kona points and $150,000 total prize purse so it ticks all the boxes. Although it’s still very daunting to line up against so many guys that I look up to and admire I really do get excited to race the best. Since Busselton 70.3 five weeks ago I felt I had a good block of training

I initially was pretty excited about this, as I like a bit of chop and thought it would break the race up a bit. Well I was wrong about that, there were still two main packs of favourites separated by 5 minutes with me smack bang in the middle of this on

    Ironman 70.3 World Champs
The Ironman 70.3 world champs are now run and done and as I look back on the outcome I am proud of the performance I put together given the far from ideal build up I had.  I changed my year structure a bit this year as I often felt burnt out come August/September. After my 3rd place in 70.3 Coeur d’Alene in June I took a week break and then started back into some top-up base miles for the month of July, which was my last month in Boulder. On literally the last run up there I was doing some
